Dear Friends,
I would like to thank everyone across the Tenth District, Georgia and the nation who supported our campaign. We traveled over 18,000 miles across the district and met so many wonderful people. I am encouraged by how many citizens I met who are committed to improving their communities and our nation, and who are willing to commit their time and effort to the cause.
It appears that Jim Whitehead and Paul Broun will compete in the runoff campaign. I have called to congratulate them, and wish both of them, as well as all of the other candidates, well. We will watch as the final official returns come in, and once all of the votes are in, we will make an assessment about whether further action is appropriate.
Again, I thank everyone who participated in the campaign, and I congratulate all of the candidates on a well-run race.
Sincerely,
James Marlow

From the Athens Banner-Herald:
My stepdaughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren all were killed on Sept. 11, 2001, when American Flight 77 was crashed into the Pentagon.
President Bush used the 9/11 tragedy to justify his pre-emptive war against Iraq. I think he was wrong, but nonetheless our country has lost many men and women to the war and has spent billions of dollars.
So, for me the Iraq war is a major issue in the 10th Congressional District race.
Likewise, it is a major issue for 10th District candidate James Marlow, who said in public meetings and debates, “I will work every day to bring our involvement in Iraq to an honorable end as quickly as we can, while also protecting our national interests in the region and the world.”
I’ve talked with Marlow, and he’s convinced me he means this.
But evidently Iraq is not a major issue for 10th District candidate Jim Whitehead, who reportedly said, “Iraq has not been a big thing in our district” and who often has refused to debate other candidates.
Although he doesn’t have time for a public meeting to explain or deny this statement, in a bizarre e-mail he offered to meet with me personally. That doesn’t cut it; I want a congressman unafraid to appear in public - and in particular, if elected, to speak for his constituents.
Through his actions, Marlow has earned my vote on Tuesday.
